ON SURVIVAL THE EXTERNAL & THE INTERNAL WE LIVE IN TWO ENVIRONMENTS – ONE EXTERNAL, THE OTHER INTERNAL. For survival, the external environment must be endurable, the internal fairly balanced and relatively stable. The external environment exists outside the confines of our integument – limitless, changeable, and with many elements: air, water, fire, earth, plants, galaxies, animals, people, and many more. The internal environment is our private domain, a sheltered citadel beneath our skin and mucous membranes. There, decisive action takes place where the omnipotent Vital Force works its miracles, giving us life, warmth, feelings, intellect, and that which makes us human. And there, we find an awesome assembly of juices, ferments, body fluids, warm blood, emotions, passions, desires, sexual drive, breath cycles, fairly constant body temperature, heartbeat, hormonal balance, specific biochemical states; in short, what have you. Our internal atmosphere is very well conditioned and finely attuned to the most trivial interventions. The slightest maladjustment manifests itself in one serious infirmity or another, unrelenting pain, or even the cessation of life itself. The internal and external environments are interdependent and inseparable. The two in reality are One.
